HARLINGEN- The Official Groundbreaking of the Baxter Building is July 18 at 10:00 a.m.

For many years, the 1927 Baxter Building was the tallest skyscraper in the Rio Grande Valley. Throughout the 1930s, the Baxter Building was the premiere office space for doctors, lawyers, and other professionals. With nine stories and the city's first elevator the Baxter Building was one of Harlingen's greatest attractions.

After withstanding the Great Depression, the 1933 Hurricane, and years of sitting vacant, the 91-year-old iconic Baxter Building will be redeveloped into a 24-unit residential development. The renovation is expected to be completed by May 2019.
