WESLACO – A local business owner says he’s learned to detect red flags when it comes to charity organizations.

Restaurant owner Rafael Trevino says he is usually generous with his money and supports school organizations, as well as non-profit groups asking for donations.

After the hurricane and flood-related destruction, dozens of charities popped up but he doesn’t know if they are legitimate.

KRGV’s Frank McCaffrey reached out to the Better Business Bureau to ask what steps you should take to avoid giving money to a fraudulent charity.
