The Edcouch Volunteer Fire Department held a Wednesday BBQ plate fundraiser in honor of a community member who died in an auto-pedestrian crash.

Raul Palomin, 48, was hit by a truck on FM 1015 south of Mile 13 1/2 Road on Jan. 3, according to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Sgt. Maria Hernandez.

The fire department is raising money for Palomin’s funeral expenses. The volunteer firefighters said they were friends with Palomin and his family.

“It’s a lot of support from people that I don’t even know, lawyers, judges, and commissioners,” Palomin’s brother, Mario, said. “They all got together to help out.”

About 150 people showed up to purchase plates. Palomin’s funeral is set for Friday, Jan. 9.
