UPDATE (10/4): Police say a body found in a Brownsville resaca was identified.

The body of Luis Fernando Contreras, 58, was found in the water of Fort Brown near two university campuses two days ago. 

The Brownsville Police Department says no signs of foul play were found during the autopsy. 

The case is still under investigation. 


BROWNSVILLE – Authorities are investigating after a body was found in a resaca near the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Brownsville campus.

Investigators found the body of an adult male late Monday night in the Fort Brown Resaca.

They say it's likely the body had been in the water for at least a couple of days. At this time, officials are not suspecting foul play. 

An autopsy to determine the cause of death has been ordered.
