Border Patrol arrests sex offender near Hidalgo
The U.S. Border Patrol arrested a sex offender Sunday near Hidalgo.
Border Patrol arrested Juan Gabriel Soto-Rivera, 42, a Mexican citizen who lived in McAllen before he was deported, on Sunday.
"The Defendant claims to have illegally entered the United States on March 29, 2020, near Hidalgo, Texas," according to the criminal complaint against him.
Soto-Rivera was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child and sentenced to five years in prison, according to Texas Department of Public Safety records, which list the victim as a 5-year-old child.
The federal government deported him in January 2014.
Border Patrol announced Soto-Rivera's arrest on Monday afternoon.
Soto-Rivera remains in federal custody and couldn't be reached for comment.
