Border Patrol Sees Increase in Canal Rescues

NEAR LA JOYA –Border Patrol says the numbers of rescues along the U.S.-Mexico border already surpasses last year’s.

“Up to the end of July, there was over 1,300 rescues this year,” says Border Patrol Agent Roberto Rodriguez.

He says people jump into canals to evade arrest; some do not make it.

A woman living in La Havana says she has witnessed illegal activity in the 30 years she’s lived alone.

Linda Gonzalez tells KRGV’s Angelo Vargas she’ll continue to create her own makeshift barriers to protect herself.
