RAYMONDVILLE – A store owner in Raymondville says business is picking up now that a nearby prison facility has reopened.

The owner, Norma Cadena, tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS she’s seen a 35 percent increase in sales from workers since El Valle Detention Center reopened last month.

Cadena said she had to close for about a month when the city started upgrading sidewalks around downtown.

Now that it’s complete and with the start of the school year expected for next week, she’s says she’s ready to see an increase in sales.

KRGV’s Frank McCaffrey reached out to the city to see if more businesses will settle in the area in the near future.
