LAGUNA VISTA – Authorities in Cameron County are trying to find the cause of a car explosion that killed a driver.

Laguna Vista resident George Chambers was driving on Highway 100 on Wednesday when his Buick Park Avenue exploded.

“Something happened, like a malfunction. There was an explosion. We don't know what caused it, so we're letting the Laguna Vista Police Department and their crew see what was the cause,” says Justice of the Peace Bennie Ochoa.

The Cameron County Fire Marshal’s Office is also handling a separate investigation related to the incident.
