WESLACO – Election Day is over but the votes are still being counted.

A record number of voters in all Rio Grande Valley counties took part in this year’s midterms.

First-time voters helped to set that record.

KRGV’s Trason Bragg spoke with Cameron County Election Administrator Remi Garza about the turnout.

"We've been at the zoo, we've been at malls, we've been at churches, we've been everywhere we can go. We're trying to make elections apart of their everyday life, not just two times a year, says Garza.

A total of 29,000 people in Cameron County voted in this election.

Garza tells us in the last three years, the number of registered voters in the county rose from 186,000 to 207,000.
