DONNA – A 30 plus-year old water tower in Donna with a history of leaking is set to be exchanged for a new tower.

The construction of a new water tower in the city will start in three weeks and will take a year to construct.

As soon as it is completed and operational, the old tower will be dismantled.

“Well we made the decision about six months ago to put out for bids to demolish the existing water tower, which is a half million gallon storage tank and build a new million dollar storage tank. And the new tower is going to be located across the expressway,” Donna City Manager Ernesto Silva said.

He said the city will benefit by having a new water tower with twice the capacity.
