The city of Edinburg held a groundbreaking Wednesday for a new park.

The park will be located on South Chavez Road between Betts Elementary and Esparza Elementary.

Once construction is complete, the park will include a splash pad, walking trails, basketball courts, soccer and baseball fields, and an inclusive playground.

Students will also get to use the park during school hours.

"Our students can use it every single day. Teachers can use it as a classroom," Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Mario Salinas said. "During the day, Monday through Friday, it's closed; it's for the school only. After 4 p.m., we open it up for the public in our community and on weekends."

The park is a partnership between Edinburg CISD and Hidalgo County and will cost $4.5 million. A completion date has not yet been announced.
