DPS Traffic Stop Leads to Cocaine Seizure
WESLACO – The Texas Department of Public Safety seized 59.7 pounds of cocaine on Thursday after a Texas Highway Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle in Hidalgo County.
At around 11:46 a.m., a trooper stopped a 2011 Ford F-150, northbound on U.S. 281 near San Manuel, for a traffic violation.
Troopers subsequently discovered 25 packages of cocaine, worth an estimated $3.7 million, concealed in a diesel tank on the bed of the truck.
The driver – Jose Luis Andrade Jr., 24, of Pharr – was arrested and charged with possession of a control substance, a first-degree felony.
Andrade was transported to the Hidalgo County Jail.
