SAN JUAN – Harlingen authorities said it’s been five months since a San Benito woman disappeared without a trace.

Nahomi Rodriguez left her job at the McDonald’s on Sunshine Strip in Harlingen in July. Her family said they are now leaning on their faith to bring her home.

During the holidays, people travel from all over the world to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle where they can find a symbol of hope.

Rodriguez’s aunt, Enedina Sanchez, said the last few months have left her family waiting by the phone and praying for her return.

“We’ve lit some candles for her. For God to light her way back to us,” she said.

Sanchez said the holidays have been a tough time for the family.

“We have pictures of her. And when we sat around to give thanks and we said our grace, it was very saddening to have that empty chair,” she said. “It’s devastating because no family should be worrying about where their child is.”

Sanchez said she’s touched to see law enforcement continue working hard in the search for her niece. However, Harlingen police officer Larry Moore said daily tips have slowed down tremendously.

“It’s unbelievable how so many days have passed and still there’s no news. We want to hear something, something liable so we can go reach and hunt and look,” he said.

Officer Moore said the investigation is ongoing and will remain open. He said they’re depending on the community for help.

“I can’t give up on her. We cannot give up on her, ‘cause every child needs to come home,” he said.
