MERCEDES – Multiple disaster survivor assistance teams are going around Mercedes and meeting with flood victims after last month’s storms.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says they’ve been going door-to-door for the last three days and expects for them to stay there longer.

KRGV’s Taylor Winkel visited the home of a resident whose story resonates with others who were also affected by high waters about three years ago.

A FEMA representative says if homeowners didn’t renew their FEMA insurance from the 2015 floods, they won’t qualify for additional federal aid. However, the rule changes if you don’t live in a floodplain.

If you’re like to request a disaster survivor assistance team, contact your local emergency manager of call FEMA at 1-800-621-3362.
