PHARR - Triple overtime and double overtime were both on the menu of Friday's 10 Area Round football playoff games involving Valley teams.  When the dust had settled, six local teams remained ready to play another game in week three of the post-season.  The most thrilling game of the day was at Pharr where PSJA North played host to San Benito.  This was the only one of the ten games where a Valley team was guaranteed a ticket to the third round.  San Benito defeated PSJA North 43-35 in triple overtime.  The Raiders forced overtime in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.  Game tied a 21 at the end of regulation.  The two teams traded scores into the third extra period.  San Benito scored first and made the mandatory two-point try that comes when a game goes three overtimes or more.  The Hounds stopped North's fourth down try to preserve the win.

Also on Friday, Brenham prevailed in double overtime over Sharyland 42-35. 

In 6A, Division 1, Weslaco knocked off United 30-14.  The Panthers will face Lake Travis on Saturday at 4 pm at the Alamodome as part of a Valley triple-header.  San Benito will host Judson on Friday night at 7:30.  Division 2 outcomes found Hanna a 28-13 winner over Eagle Pass.  Hanna plays the noon game on Saturday against Brandeis at the Alamodome.  Vela shutout Alexander 65-0 and will play Friday night against Austin Westlake at 7:30 at Buc Stadium in Corpus Christi.

Other sub-6A games included an 11th straight win for Mission Veterans.  The Patriots handled San Antonio Veterans 48-23.  Next up is unbeaten Corpus Christi Veterans at 8 pm on Saturday at the Alamodome.  La Feria outscored Needville 49-34.  The Lions play next against La Vernia with a date, site and time still to be determined.  Navarro rallied past Raymondville 35-27.  Cuero shutout Rio Hondo 56-0.  La Villa lost to Granger 40-36.
