BROWNSVILLE – A gas meter that appeared to be up dangerously close to a leaning cinder block fence was moved by Texas Gas Service.

Brownsville homeowner Amelia Amar said following CHANNEL 5 NEWS’ report last week, the gas company went out to her home the next day.

Amar said the wall became unsteady over the years. Following some groundwork in the area and was leaning up against the gas meter, she and other residents in the area were afraid of an explosion if the wall were to collapse on the meter.

“We’re surprised at how quickly they came out to tend to us. They’ve now given us and the community a sense of security because it wasn’t just us that were in danger, the other community members were in danger also,” she said.

Amar claimed work was done by the city of Brownsville crews about 10 years ago initially caused the wall damage.

A city spokeswoman said the city is still looking into the issue.
