HARLINGEN – A Harlingen veteran says the wait times at the Veteran Affairs office are getting better, but there is still room for improvement.

Antonio Alvarado says he is not prioritized for VA healthcare because he served during peacetime in the late 1970s.

"First come, first serve, that's the way they treat it. Sometimes, it's just a long wait," says Alvarado.

He says he noticed an improvement in VA service and wait times over the last five years.

KRGV’s Frank McCaffrey reached out to Veterans Service Officer Felix Rodriguez.

Rodriguez says he has also heard about improvements in VA wait-times.

He says Alvarado should become less dependent on the VA if his heart condition becomes a bigger issue.
