Heading to the game tonight? Here is what Edinburg CISD says you can and cannot bring
High school football is back in the Rio Grande Valley, with at least six games scheduled for Thursday night.
As fans head to stadiums, the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District is making sure the experience stays safe for everyone.
The district's police chief said Edinburg CISD has more than 80 officers and will adjust staffing based on how many fans show up for each game.
Edinburg CISD has a clear bag policy in place for all fans. There are exceptions for diaper bags and medical bags.
"There are women that need diaper bags. If they can't bring a clear one, we need to allow them to look into it just in case," Edinburg CISD Police Chief Ricardo Perez said. "We want to make sure that if you bring medical bags, we need to look into that too."
Vapes, alcohol, weapons, and outside food and drinks are not allowed inside the stadium. Service dogs are allowed.
Stadium staff have been trained on how to handle rule violations, Perez warned, and fans who are removed should cooperate with personnel.
“Cooperate because then the police will get involved,” Perez said.
