MERCEDES – Hidalgo County officials are warning residents affected by flooding about false information being spread online.

The Facebook post claims that residents should not clean up damage created by floodwater because FEMA won’t cover expenses if it’s already clean up – officials say this is not true.

KRGV’s Trason Bragg spoke with the Hidalgo County director of health and human services about this false claim.

He says to avoid exposure of bacteria and other germs, clean up as soon as possible.

The only proof of damage FEMA needs is photos before and after the damage and receipts of expenses.
