WESLACO – Christian Yarussi is well traveled thanks to his soccer skills and expertise. The former Valley resident now works in Europe as an assistant for Eintracht Frankfurt.

“Currently I’m part of the professional coaching staff working with players like Marco Fabian and Salcedo,” said Yarussi.

The Argentinean coach made his way back to the Valley to share his knowledge with players looking to raise their game.

“The difference between our soccer here in the Valley and in Europe is huge, “said Yarussi. “The level of play, the speed of play. The way we think about soccer is completely different.”

“It’s honestly super cool because the level of play over there is much different than over here, “said Weslaco soccer player Juan Lorenzo Rodriguez.

PSJA Memorial soccer play Yozary Gonzalez was another local at Yarussi’s camp.

“I’m really happy that I got the chance, that my coaches gave me the chance to practice with someone like him,” said Gonzalez. “He really knows what he’s talking about.”

In addition to teaching kids about soccer, Yarussi gives them hope that they can too can go far in the sport.

"It's awesome man,” said Weslaco soccer player George Martinez. “It makes you feel like you can go all the way over there you know and he showed us pictures with Marco Fabian, the Mexican player."
