SAN BENITO – The San Benito Housing Authority is still working to recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Dolly 10 years ago.

Over eight inches of rain fell in the area and caused some of the public housing to shut down, according to the organization.

KRGV’s Cecilia Gutierrez spoke with SBHA’s Community Development Manager, David Cortez about the progress that’s been made so far.

Cortez says they were already short on housing when Dolly hit. After that, they had to act fast to relocate tenants by acquiring units which were converted into public housing.

He explains the process has been slow – the housing authority is still down 91 units from the time it began in the 1990s.
