LYFORD – Police in Lyford are awaiting an autopsy to determine how a 9-month-old girl died while at daycare.

Authorities responded to a call at the Kidsville Daycare Center in Lyford around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Police chief Andres Maldonado tells us the girl was put down for a nap. When a worker went to check on the child, she was unresponsive.

Maldonado says they are treating the case as a homicide until they have more information from the autopsy.

He says all the employees have been questioned.

The Texas Rangers and the Willacy County Sheriff's Department are assisting in the investigation.

The daycare center will remain closed until Monday.
