Man Charged in 2016 Teen’s Death Case
MISSION – A suspect accused in the death of a 17-year-old north of Mission is charged with capital murder.
Dimas Morales’ case was being handled by the juvenile courts; he’s now being tried as an adult.
Morales pleaded not guilty to capital murder and felony murder charges. He’s accused of killing Miguel Angel Alcala.
In 2016, Morales shot Alcala while the two attempted robbing Felix Rodriguez, according to court documents.
Investigators said they believe it was an attempted drug rip-off gone bad.
Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office investigators said they believe the shot that killed Alcala was intended for the homeowner, who authorities said is a suspected drug dealer.
Morales is facing life in jail for the capital murder charge, and five to 99 years in jail with up to a $10,000 fine for felony murder.
Morales is due back in court on August 3 for a pretrial.
