McAllen ISD Student Parking Permit Revoked
MCALLEN – After losing parking privileges at school, a student is now in the process of transferring to a different campus.
Isaac Gamboa is a high school junior at Nikki Rowe High School.
He says on a recent trip to school, he noticed a traffic officer signaling him to stop so he pulled into the student parking lot.
“I just get to my parking spot and I park, and a school officer shows up. He’s like, ‘I’m going to have to remove your sticker buddy.’ I’m like, ‘Well, what’s the reason? I want to know why?” he explains. “’They said over the radio that you’re recklessly driving.’”
After requesting a statement from the school district, they sent the following, which reads in part:
“It’s administrative policy, when a student commits a serious driving infraction, their parking permit is pulled for the rest of the semester. The permit is a privilege, not a right.
McAllen ISD will always act in the best interests of student and staff safety.”
Gamboa’s family is now in the process of transferring him to McAllen High School because it’s within walking distance from their house.
