MCALLEN – The city of McAllen began placing yellow dumpsters in places prone to illegal dumping to tackle the issue.

Officials say the problem is widespread throughout the city: in abandoned fields, along transited streets and in neighborhoods.

KRGV’s Cecilia Gutierrez looked at a list of places where the dumpsters have been previously placed; most of those where abandoned homes.

“That’s where we try to place our dumpsters, our roll-off containers to reduce illegal dumping in those areas,” says Roberto Trevino Jr., resource manager for the city of McAllen.

He says if you have an issue with trash or debris in your neighborhood, you can visit the Keep McAllen Beautiful website and fill out an application to have a dumpster set up in your area.
