A 37-year-old McAllen man accused of stabbing and killing his aunt and threatening to kill his grandmother has been arraigned.

Esai Longoria was booked into the Hidalgo County jail on Thursday on charges of murder, assault on a peace officer, injury to the elderly, aggravated assault and three counts of resisting arrest.

A criminal complaint obtained by Channel 5 News says the death happened after Longoria got into an argument with his grandmother.

Bond was set at $55,000 for the resisting arrest charges, but no bond amount was set for the other charges. Longoria was transferred to the Hidalgo County Jail following his arraignment on Aug. 24.

As previously reported, the McAllen Police Department received reports of a man acting erratically at a home in the 1500 block of Redwood Avenue on Aug. 22.

Longoria had locked himself inside the home and could be heard screaming. His grandmother advised officers that he had schizophrenia and was not taking his medication.

Through a window, officers spotted a woman lying motionless on the floor of a bedroom with blood visible nearby. An officer broke a window to get inside, cutting his hand in the process.

Once inside, officers found Longoria standing in the living room with blood on his arms and clothing, according to the criminal complaint.

An officer gave Longoria commands to get on the ground. Longoria ignored the commands and continued yelling, eventually punching an officer in the face, grabbing the officer's pinky finger and bending it back, and slamming the officer into a wall.

Officers were eventually able to handcuff Longoria with the help of additional officers. He was then charged with resisting arrest.

Officers then found the woman in the bedroom, later identified as Anna Marie Hidalgo, Longoria's aunt. She had stab wounds on her arm and chest and was not breathing. Hidalgo was pronounced dead after she was hospitalized.

Longoria's grandmother told officers she had gotten into a verbal argument with Longoria after arriving home because he was hallucinating. She said Longoria pushed her, causing her to fall to her knees.

The grandmother told officers Longoria then went to the kitchen, got a large knife and told her he was going to kill her.

“Ana intervened and prevented Longoria from stabbing her by physically placing herself in front of him while telling him to stop when she was stabbed,” the complaint states. “Longoria had locked the doors to the residence, preventing them from escaping.”

The grandmother told officers she did not want to file charges against Longoria.
