MERCEDES -- A 19-year old Mercedes man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning.

The Department of Public Safety said 19-year old Juan Mercado IV was traveling west on Mile 11 North just west of FM 491, north of Mercedes. 

Mercado somehow lost control of his car and crashed into a palm tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

DPS is investigating the crash.
