Mexican Drug Leader Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison
LAREDO – A Mexican cartel leader was sentenced to three decades behind bars.
Ivan Velasquez Caballero, aka El Talivan, was one of the leaders of the Zetas until his arrest in 2012. The 47-year-old is accused of importing and distributing narcotics to the U.S. from Mexico.
In 2014, he pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy, money laundering and murder charges, amongst others. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Friday.
Velasquez is expected to face deportation once he is released from prison.
