MISSION – A group of landowners, who could be impacted by border barriers, are relieved following a meeting with Customs and Border Protection Thursday. They met with CBP as part of a regularly scheduled meeting.

Lloyd Burns was amongst those in attendance. He’s the park manager at Chimney Park RV Resort.

The RV park sits along the Rio Grande in the City of Mission. Burns said he’s noticed some CBP activity near the park, including land being cleared out and aerial mapping points laid out.

Burns relocated from the Midwest and calls the Rio Grande Valley home. However, he said he won’t stay if his home is caught south of a border wall.

On Wednesday, questions outweighed answers for Burns, “Where's our entrance going to be? Are you (Border Patrol) going to be coming into our park the way you guys (Border Patrol agents) normally are? Is it going to be like a keypad or something you have to enter a number to get through? Our contractors, how are they supposed to come in?”

After meeting with CBP, he said his questions were answered with a simple response. He told CHANNEL 5 NEWS, he, along with other landowners, were told right now funding for a border wall hasn’t been allocated.

"The only thing that is planned is the new gates to close up the gaps of the gates they already have," said Burns.

Thirty-five of the proposed gates were designated for the Rio Grande Valley.

Burns added, he's still not convinced a border wall is out of the question. For that reason, he's holding off completing long-term remodeling or construction at Chimney Park.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS asked CBP for outlines of the border wall for the Valley. A spokesperson with CBP said, "All information is preliminary at this point, no final decision has been made. It will be premature for us to share any data that is not final."
