U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Pharr International Bridge seized more than $10 million worth of methamphetamine hidden inside a shipment of leeks.

According to a news release, officers at the cargo facility stopped a tractor-trailer coming from Reynosa, Mexico on Aug. 22. The shipment was listed as leeks.

Officers sent the vehicle to a secondary inspection area, where nonintrusive inspection equipment and a canine team were used, according to the news release. The equipment showed anomalies inside the trailer and the dog alerted to the smell of narcotics.

A physical search turned up 395 packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing 1,204.82 lbs. Officers valued the drugs at $10.8 million.

CBP seized the drugs and the vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations special agents then opened a criminal investigation.
