MCALLEN – The City of McAllen will move forward with a multi-million project to improve drainage.

The Westway Heights neighborhood will receive $4.2 million for drainage improvements; about half of these funds come from FEMA.   

A resident who lives in the neighborhood tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS he also dealt with flooding six years ago due to only having one drain.

This project will be a part of a larger city-wide investment.

Funds for the city will come from three sources:

• $21 million bond to borrow money approved by taxpayers
• $5 million in grants from FEMA
• Average of $1.50/month drainage fee implemented by city
