Records: Former finance director stole than $750K from Harlingen cancer clinic
A 40-year-old Brownsville woman stole more than $750,000 from a Harlingen cancer treatment clinic through 87 false transactions while working as its finance director, according to the Harlingen Police Department.
Dr. Mark Harrison filed a police report with the Harlingen Police Department on May 19, 2026, on behalf of his business, Valley Cancer Associates, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Channel 5 News.
The complaint said Harrison reported that Yuliana Perez, a former HR finance director, accounts payable and payroll employee, stole money from the business between May 2025 and April 2026.
Police previously said Perez diverted company funds to four personal bank accounts during that time.
"The fraudulent transactions were concealed by disguising them as legitimate business expenses using vendors with whom the company regularly conducted business," police said.

Harrison said during a routine review of the business finances, they noticed Perez's W-2 tax documents did not match her salary. The documents showed about $200,000 more than expected, according to the complaint.
Harrison then looked at Perez's paid time off records. Employees were allowed to sell back hours, which would show up on W-2s, but Perez did not have nearly enough paid time off to explain the higher amount.
Investigators initially believed more than $588,000 was taken from the transactions.
A closer analysis of the finances followed, and a business administrator found a total of 87 electronic payments made from the business's bank accounts to Perez's personal bank accounts, listed under the names of various vendors.
Documentation provided to police showed Perez's personal bank account numbers matched the accounts listed under vendor names in the business records.
A review of additional transactions found more deposits from Valley Cancer Associates reflected on Perez's bank statements under vendor names, totaling $162,277.61. The grand total taken from the business came to $750,282.98.
Perez had worked for Harrison since 2014. She was fired on April 9, 2026, due to her claiming and selling back more paid time off than she actually had, the complaint states.
"When presented and confronted about the PTO, Perez stated 'Well, I might have done a little too much,'" the complaint added.
Perez was arrested on Aug. 4, 2026. Her bond was set at $100,000. As of Monday night, Perez was not listed as an inmate in Harlingen jail records.
