HARLINGEN – Residents in Harlingen say when storms hit the area Thursday afternoon the roads flooded minutes later.

“I have sandbags but still, the water was too high. It was like six, seven inches high. I couldn't stop it,” says resident Lydia Guillen. “In 30 minutes, it was already flooded.”

Guillen says she called city hall and the fire department to pump out the water but was told they didn’t have the equipment.

She invested in her own water pump since she’s had to deal with flooding several times but it’s still not enough.

KRGV’s Sierra Pizarro reached out to the city of Harlingen. A spokesperson says they are equipped with pumps but didn’t deem it necessary for this round of flooding.

They also add the city is working on drainage to prevent the water from accumulating.
