MISSION--Many valley residents came together to place wreaths on graves of fallen veterans.
It was the eleventh year of placing wreaths on graves.
Esmeralda Salazar came to the Rio Grande Valley State Veteran's Cemetery in Mission to honor her uncle who served in the Air force. He passed away in 2014.
"The following year, my aunts and I made it a tradition. We make our way over here to pay our respects," said Salazar.
Salazar had one of the 1,784 wreaths.
"I think it's the least that we can do to say thank you to those that served for our country for the liberties that we often times take for granted," said Salazar.
She said it's comforting seeing all the families come to honor their loved ones on this special day.
Organizers said all of the wreaths are donated.
They begin planning the next event as soon as this one is over.
