MISSION – Rio Grande Valley residents are already feeling the impact of the potential border wall going up in their state park.

A local resident, Roger Norris, tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS that he’s worried his investment might be ruined if the federal government decides to put up a 9,000-foot fence through Bentsen State Park.

He believes this would eventually lead to the park being shut down completely.

"I know the Winter Texans down here add a lot to the economy. If people were afraid to come here or didn't want to come here, because of the construction of the wall, it would certainly have an effect,” says Norris.

KRGV’s Frank McCaffrey spoke with Mayor Armando O’Cana about how much of an impact this would have on the city’s economy.

He estimates Bentsen State Park brings in millions annually.

O’Cana adds he and the city council are unanimously against the border wall.
