WESLACO – High temperatures in the Rio Grande Valley will reach triple digits. The hot temperatures, combined with some humid air, will produce a heat index, or “feels like” temperatures, between 105 and 110 for a few hours this afternoon.

If you’re planning to be outdoors today:

  • Stay hydrated
  • Wear light-weight and light-colored clothing
  • Take frequent breaks from the heat

Meanwhile, along the coast, the rip current risk remains high until 7 p.m. A small craft advisory is in effect for gulf waters from 7 p.m. to Friday at 1 p.m. An advisory is already in effect for bay waters.

Also, five Cameron County beach accesses remain closed due to extremely high tides. The temporary closures affect:

  • County Beach Access #3
  • County Beach Access #4
  • County Beach Access #5
  • County Beach Access #6
  • Boca Chica Beach

The high temperatures already affected on airline. Yesterday, Allegiant reschedule two flights due to excessive heat in Hidalgo County and Las Vegas. Below is their statement.

Flight 416 with scheduled service from Las Vegas to McAllen and flight 417 with scheduled service from McAllen to Las Vegas on June 21, 2017 were rescheduled to June 22, 2017 due to weather in both cities. Excessive heat warnings from the National Weather Service are currently in effect for Nevada and Hidalgo County, Texas. For the safety of our passengers and ground crew the flights were rescheduled.
