One of the newest sports teams in the Rio Grande Valley, the RGV Red Crowns, are set for their home opener on Saturday, May 24th.

The Red Crowns will take the pitch in Harlingen at their field just off Fair Park Blvd. for a matchup with Central Dallas FC.

Now, they get their first home game this weekend. The team is made up of players either in college or about to enter college, many of whom are from the Valley.

"We all know each other from our youth clubs, so it's perfect," Red Crowns midfielder Vicente Alvarez said. "The chemistry is very comfortable. But were all at a point where we know we can't get comfortable with where we're at. We want to compete; we want to win the league."

"The objective is real clear, we want to be champions," Red Crowns midfielder Diego Armando Torres added. "The goal is to represent the community, the city, the whole valley, the best we can and the way the valley requires it is being champions."

The Red Crowns lost last week 2-0 in their season opener in San Antonio. Tickets are available now on the team website.
