Rio Grande City fire department on standby as rain moves in
Rio Grande City, TX (KRGV) — The Rio Grande City fire chief says crews are ready to respond to flooded areas as rain continues to fall in the region.
Fire Chief Manuel Muniz said crews are in constant communication with other fire chiefs in Starr County for mutual aid.
"We do have the high vehicles that we take, our monster truck and our brush truck which is a high angle vehicle so we use that to go into low flooded areas," Muniz said.
Muniz said crews will not force residents to leave their homes.
"We cannot force anybody to get out. If they want to protect their homes, then we do that, we respect that," Muniz said.
Depending on the amount of rain that falls, fire crews will decide whether to open a shelter.
