Sanctuary City Law Takes Effect Following Court Ruling
WESLACO – Most of the state’s so-called “Sanctuary City Law” took effect earlier this week after a federal appeals court gave it the go-ahead.
Three judges with the New Orleans 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decided parts of Texas’ Senate Bill 4 could be enforced.
SB-4 was set to go into place last September, but it was put on hold after a lawsuit was filed by city attorneys in El Cenizo, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and Houston.
Tuesday’s ruling was only on the temporary injunction of SB-4. A district court still needs to decide the fate of the law itself.
