NEAR BROWNSVILLE – Shrimpers out in the Gulf of Mexico are now being forced to take cover from Hurricane Michael.

The Texas Shrimpers Association says even though it's been a slow season for the shrimping industry when it comes to Mother Nature, shrimpers know better. However, that comes with a cost.

“Each day that boat is tied up and not able to fish, the boat, the crew, the owner – they are losing anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000 a night,” says TEA Executive Director Andrea Hance.

KRGV’s Daisy Martinez learned on the upside, when storms have passed through the Gulf of Mexico they have boosted shrimp production as it moves around.
