'Speak out against injustice': Local protest shows solidarity for Palestine
A "solidarity" protest to show support for Palestinians kicked off in McAllen.
The protest was held at Archer Park in McAllen on Saturday.
“It's really important to speak out against injustice,” organizer Joy Youwakim said. “Even though the United States is allies with Israel, being able to speak up about things that your country is funding that are wrong, is really important. That, to me, to a privilege and freedom of speech of being an American."
In a 2016 agreement between the United States and Israel, the U.S. pledged $38 billion in military aid over a decade.
