HARLINGEN – A man in Harlingen is charged in the death of a 19-year-old.

Police said the suspect killed Eden Arriaga Jr. when he struck him with his truck.

The motive as to why Fidel Arreazola, 27, allegedly struck the teen and his three friends is not known at this time.

On Tuesday morning, a judge charged Arreazola for the hit-and-run crash on New Hampshire Street that killed Arriaga and injured three other teens. He faces one count of accident involving death and three counts of accident involving injury.

According to police, Arreazola fled the scene after striking the teens with his truck around 1:30 Sunday morning. Fragments of his 90s-model, gold Chevy pickup were left behind at the scene, helping investigators narrow their search.

“We look through the crime scene evidence, sometimes there’s fragments left behind. You would utilize that to determine the make and model of the vehicle, in which case it did help us in determining which vehicle we were looking for,” Harlingen Police Sgt. John Parrish said.

There is surveillance video of Arreazola’s vehicle near the scene, police said. But they will not release the video, as per the direction of the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office.

Arreazola turned himself in Monday around 5:00 p.m., accompanied by his attorney.

A judge set Arreazola’s bond at $800,000. The three surviving victims are still hospitalized at this time recovering from their injuries.
