WESLACO – If you have tires you need to get rid of, this weekend is your chance to toss them out for free.

The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council says illegally dumped tires are a hazard, clogging flood-prone drainage areas and serving as a breeding ground for rodents and mosquitoes.

On Saturday, July 28, residents from Hidalgo, Cameron and Willacy counties can take up to four tires per person to designated drop-off locations.

Most collection sites will be open from 8 a.m. to noon. All you need to bring is proof of residency.
