SAN JUAN – The hard part is over. Boxes of canned and other non-perishable items were separated, then bagged at the San Juan Basilica on Tuesday.

Thanks to the community donating to our Sharing Basket campaign, thousands of Rio Grande Valley families in-need will now enjoy a full Thanksgiving meal.

Channel 5 once again teamed up with Peter Piper Pizza and Catholic Charities to bring meals to about 5,000 families.

More than 100 volunteers showed up to sort through canned goods and create baskets for families. Those baskets are now off to their respective parishes to be distributed to parishioners in-need of a holiday meal.
