PHARR – What started as a class on native plants has turned into a major project for some Rio Grande Valley students.

A group of Pharr-San Juan- Alamo Independent School District fifth-graders began to care for their small garden Raul Longoria Elementary School.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service invited the students to their annual reforestations event.

Their goal: replant 10,500 native plants at the historic Sal Del Rey Lake.

KRGV’s Rick Diaz has more.
