Walmart in Weslaco Closed After Social Media Threat

LATEST INFO (8/08 1:30 a.m.): An officer at the scene says they expect to open the store later this morning.


WESLACO - A Walmart in Weslaco is closed after a threat made online.

Weslaco police posted on their Facebook page that they are investigating a threat on Instagram towards the shopping center. 

As a precautionary measure, officials at Walmart decided to close the store until further notice. 

Weslaco spokesperson Eric Hernandez tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS there was no immediate threat inside the store.

The person who made the threat is unknown at this time. Investigators are working to identify the suspect.

Weslaco police tell us in these cases the suspect faces charges of making a terroristic threat, causing a public panic.

An officer at the scene say they expect to open the store later Thursday morning.
