WESLACO – Local fire crews are strengthening their skills by training in abandoned structures.

The Weslaco Fire Department received a tip from the code enforcement department that an abandoned home on Liberty Street was up for demolition on Wednesday.

A fire official says they were granted permission to go to the site and use it for training.

Two other abandoned structures are scheduled to come down over the next three days. They will also be used for training.
