Cameron Co. Beach Patrol Prepares for Next Beach Season
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – Although beach season is over for some at South Padre Island, the beach patrol unit is staying vigilant.
Cameron County Beach Patrol Chief Art Hurtado says the group, which covers 10 miles of beach, is in training for any additional supervision efforts in the future.
This year, over 80 rescue operations were made, which Hurtado says is considered to be average.
He adds, lifeguards are in the off-season and will only respond in case of a real emergency.
