Cameron Co. Chief Appraiser Explains How Properties are Appraised

SAN BENITO – Property taxes must be paid by the end of January in order to avoid penalties.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS took a closer look into how properties are appraised.

"Is it possible to go and visit every property each year? No it's not. But what we do is we have a reappraisal plan which that encumbers that we appraise a certain portion of the area or the county each year,” explains Cameron County Appraisal District’s Chief Appraiser Richard Molina.

He says his office begins working to appraise homes within the reappraisal plan from September to March of the following year, then then area shifts.

KRGV’s Trason Bragg spoke with a San Benito resident whose home changed in value just a few years ago.
