City of Mission cleans up illegal tire dump site

The city of Mission is calling on the community to help them stop illegal dumping.
The city’s code enforcement office recently discovered what the department’s supervisor called the biggest eyesore she's seen on the job.
“It looked like close to 100 tires plus along the street, neighboring streets, there was some other spots where people dumped,” Irasema Dimas said of the grassy area along 13th Street in Mission.
Her team responded to the location after a citizen received a call that the area was littered with stacks of black tires.
The tires are currently at the city’s landfill where they will be transported to the city’s recycling center.
Dimas said her department is attempting to discover who illegally dumped the tires, but acknowledged that it could've also been done by somebody outside the city of Mission. They'll continue to investigate – and are asking the community to keep an eye out for anything that may look suspicious.
Anyone found guilty of illegal dumping can face fines from $100 to $4,000, Dimas said.
